Default Framerate issues

I am experiencing bad framerate using the powercolor x1950 pro AC2

Things i've done:

- Tried old ATI drivers recommended with the box given

- Tried ATI catalyst 8.1

- Rebuilt OS just incase of old drivers conflicting

- checked if all fans are working. All are

- checked hardrive. All seemed fine

- Got a new powersuply. An arctic 600w with plenty of Amps on the rails

- Most drivers are up-to-date with the system .

System specs:

intel pentium D 3.2ghz
maxtor 7200rpm 150gb
2gb pc5300 memory
ASus P5VD2-MX SE motherboard

Im currently using OMEGA drivers. They seem to have gotten rid of the choppyness, but the terrible frames remain.

I've done CPUz and i have found out that my CPU seems to be going from 2.4ghz to 3.2ghz continously. I have purchased paste for my heatsink and will clean that & reattach it later on.

Games i play really do suck in frames. I've tested IL2 sturmovik and Oblivion and both are very similar in frames. If i lower the settings i get a boost of maybe 4 frames :/ which are normally 14-20 frames MAX, but if i face a wall i get about 60

resolution : 1024 x 768

If you require more information, i'll be happy to add more details if necessary .

check for viruses. they're another big factor with frame rate issues. also defragment your hard drive. that may yield another 1 or 2 frames. it may not sound like much, but given the circumstances, 1 or 2 frames here can make a world of difference.

double check to see if your video card is dying. if you got it many years ago, it may slowly be burning out.

quite honestly, i think you may just have a bunch of viruses. also, check to make sure no extra processes are running in the background while you play. those tend to make a big difference.

I have absolutely no viruses on my computer. On the other hand, my graphics card could be possibly dying. I bought it on the 14-01-08 so age isn't a worry. It could be a stupid malfunction which might of busted it. Damn, i've gone on longer than the 28 days to return it :( Convincing them is the only way i guess.

I don't wanna sound like a pain in the arse, but if you havent followed evilfantasy's thread on removing viruses and malware do that. I followed a similar guide when my computer wasn't running properly and it came up with all sorts of stuff, despite my Norton not picking it up.

Regardless to say i don't have Norton anymore, and to be honest Norton could be making quite a big difference to your framerates as well if you have it installed!

Anyway, I didn't reply to this thread to flame Norton.

I have no Viruses, malware, rootkits etc on my system. I use AVG free and have stopped that running in the background to see if that made effect. It made a 1 frame of a difference.

Okey Doke.

May seem blindingly obvious, but on a game like oblvion you aren't pumping the settings all on 'highest' are you. The X1950 is a good mid-range card, but nothing more than that.

If not, and your CPU is operating at well, your memory isn't dead, then it would seem your graphics card is dying. If you phone them up and have a rant you may just get lucky. Have you overclocked your card?

I haven't overclocked my card at all. I've got the company to send out a courier to pick it up very soon, so hopefully it'll be replaced soon as well :)

Well, to be honest, that would probably rule out the fact that it is the card itself and point you to some of your other hardware.

Run 3Dmark and see what result you get. Might shed some light on the situation. What games are you having trouble with?
