Default Gateway Fx Will Not Connect to the Internet

My girlfriend bought this Laptop less than one month ago. Since then she has had to take it back for multiple reasons. The latest one being that she can not connect to the internet. The last thing she sees before it locks up is that she connects to an unidentified network. The last time she took it back they said it was locking up because Webroot and Norton were not compatible i.e. conflicting with each other. Its to the point where she wants to take it back for a refund and with how far away I am right now I can't do anything to help. This seemed to be a good buy at the time but now I'm starting to think otherwise.
Can anyone help?

Where did she buy it from? Also there are many FREE alternatives to the bloated software she's running at the moment that's also lighter on resources, We can provide you with links if she's interested. What 'reasons' has she been given for the problems so far by the company that the laptop was bought from? Also whats her internet set up, i.e is she connecting to a modem/router via Ethernet or is she connecting wirelessly. If wirelessly is she connecting to her network, or anything in range?

Remove all networks from Network Connections and disable automatically connecting to a network.

Norton is a poor suite and you can get by without Webroot. Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and either AVG or Avira (or Nod32 if you want something to buy, it's pretty good) and you should be covered (for free!).

+1 - Lose both those programs, neither are any good and better alternatives can be had free.

Then explain what happens when you try to connect to your router, not the unidentified one.

.... and use the Norton's Removal Tool, because normal uninstall will leave lots of crap everywhere, which may still cause problems.

Default Gateway Fx Will Not Connect to the Internet

Ok so last night when she started her computer it asked her if she wanted to restore. Before she could hit yes/no she did see that it was trying to connect to that unidentified network. Almost immediately after that the computer locked up.
Her comp is connected ethernet via a comcast router. I'm not sure the exact type. As for Kano's question it was bought at Bestbuy just under 1 month ago and this last time they told her that it was a network issue. I can see how the unidentified network will be an issue but we can't do anything about that until we figure out why it's locking up.
The computer is a Gateway FX and up until her brother tried to set up a wireless router and this issue with Norton and Webroot conflicting everything was going fine. Since then comcast has had to reset it several times. I've done everything I can over the phone but as I wasn't there at the time they were doing these things I start getting mixed up at certain points.

Thanks for your input so far. Hopefully this will help out.
