Default Good first build?

This is mostly based on the parts recommendation list from linderman (who is awesome) I mostly want this to run heavy requirement games, which before I knew anything about computers at all I tried to play on a Toshiba Satellite:laugh:

Case: Coolermaster Centurion
MoBo: Gigabyte EP45-UD3L
Processor: Intel E8400
Ram: G. Skill PI Black 4gb (2x2) DDR2
Cooler: Zalman 9700 LED
Power Supply: Corsair 650TX
Vid Card: Sapphire HD4870 1gb
HD: Seagate 640gb

Anything else i'll need to get this thing going?
Will it run cool enough?
I'm guessing XP is fine? Or is there a better OS for games?

Also I might be going overboard with the Sapphire, it seems worth the extra 60 or so bucks compared to the EVGA GeForce 9800 but I dunno.

Thanks so much guys, of all the forums i've tried this is by far the most helpful!
Oh, and whever I decide to go with, what software other than the OS will I need?

Change the HDD to Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB

PSU - wattage isn't everything, a 520HX or 550TX will be more than sufficient.

GPU's good, but Saphire's not a brilliant brand, have a hunt round see if you can get a better one (still a 4870) and stay on budget.

The E8500 is a better buy than the E8400, it overclocks better and theres very little difference in the price now anyway.

Cooler doesn't matter that much, if you're not overclocking it, or not very much then you won't need one, the stock cooler will be fine.

Other than that, looks pretty good.
You might want to read Carbon's Part's guide #4 as well, just for some reference points.

Missed some things:

GPU: Good card (4870) But bad brand (Sapphire) - Evga is a good brand, but the 9800 is a bad card.

And err, you not getting a CD/DVD/BDDVD/HDDVD drive then?

XP x86 is supposed to be best for gaming.

Sapphire is the best reseller for ATI cards..they are essentially ATI's EVGA. I don't know why you'd be down on them.

9800GT and 4870 have completely different usage scenarios, what's your res?

I would seriously look at my guide because the E8400 is a poorer buy right now than the X3 720, etc.

Woops, ok

I think I first got that because someone told me not to get one, then I've just seen some reviewed and I thought it was one of the tackier brands.

My bad.
