Ok i am just looking and my brother recently saw computers like these and bought one. Unfortunately my pocket isn't as deep so i would still need to find the money but i was looking and saw http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/QUAD-CORE-9-6G...QQcmdZViewItem this and wondered if it was any good for gaming?

id snap that comp up for that price.
but it has some major downs. only 1 gig ram at 677mhz, mobo capable of only 2gb. for gaming id say no, the 8500 is a bad card. youd be more worth while getting a decent dx9 card. i know it seems tempting but basically the CPU takes up most of that cost. the q6600 is around £170 at retailers. |

If you're getting a quad for gaming make no mistake you want at least 800mhz or 1066mhz ram or the lack of bandwidth for the cpu is going to choke it.
It's probably me, but did anyone else see an o.s quoted in the Ebay link? And Necro's absolutely correct with the card, it's lousy.

All I can say is you've got to think about it logically. People sell things to make a profit. If it wasn't good for them, then they wouldn't be selling it. Usually computers that come ready-built are of incredibly low quality (except for Apples).
By the looks of that computer its a piece of crap. No offense meant. It didn't state the company that made the graphics card and "by accident" didn't show a photo of it either. Don't buy it! It's best to get help of someone you know and trust who has a good knowledge of computers. Working with them you can build a computer that meets all your needs and is safe and reliable. As Krill said "Never trust anyone that quotes the rated speed by combining all the cores" He's right. |

i assume hes talking about the
Innovision 3D 8500GT 512MB DDR2 DVI PCI-E which is available for £46.99 Because i know this guys tricks and this is the cheapest card i can find matching what he claims. He dosent supply with a OS he plays on the term "Vista Ready". He also charges £25 for shipping and shipping takes up to 1 month. Also he uses a premium rate number for help.Which charges 70p a minute. I never bought a pc from him.But he is someone i've been eying up as competition for when i start my business. The price he put that pc together for is £330.87 I think what he does in terms of description is fair enough though. You are getting a geforce 512mb card. etc plus obviously there is a build cost and ebay and paypal fees. I think if he would have better customer service, drop the premium rate number, make it clear it dosent ship with an operating system. Ive also seen him name cards as 512mb when infact they might be 256mb with a turbo cache of 512mb. All in all, buyers on ebay need to realise you dont get something for nothing. You get what you pay for. Its still a better value pc than you would get from the shops. All in all i think its a fair price. Anyone disagree? I guess its a fair price, but you really don't know exactly what it is your getting. I'm sticking with my previous conviction that it's best to get someone you know who has some experience with computers to work with you to build one.
That and the 8500GT isn't a good gaming GPU. I think it would be better to go with a high end DX9 card instead of a low end DX10 card. I currently run 2 7600GS's in SLi which do the job for most games more then well, and they only cost AU$180 (75-80 pounds). EDIT: Just to reinstate my argument: I got my entire computer including: - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core @ 2.8GHz - 2 7600GS's in SLi Mode - 1 TV Tuner - GA-M55SLI-S4 Rev 2 SLi Ready Motherboard - 2GB DDR2 Ram - ThermalTake Soprano Case - 1 250GB HDD - 1 DVD-RW Drive - CoolerMaster 550W PSU - Windows XP Pro All for the same price as that computer. Personally I would rather my computer any day. Although getting a computer like yours seems like a steal, it is more then likely of incredibly bad quality. |

Insomnia when talking prices its not a good idea to just convert the currency. Here in the uk, we get so much tax etc that were are ripped off when it comes to things like this.
For example the prices on newegg far outdo anything we have here. If we were to buy from there though, you would have a huge shipping charge, plus customs and import tax, plus i think there is also a tax of like 13% on electricals. Its a joke really. I know what your saying though insomnia. But people in uk can buy something like this or go to pc world where they are chared even more for far less specs and they hardly get any information about it. Jamesleee, i take it yours didnt come with an OS? Were you expecting one or were you aware from the ebay auction that it didnt have one? |
