No, jokes aside, a lot of Macs customers are people who just like the look of them.

Think about young people, they like the sheek, white look of the Mac - it does have the coolness factor to it, more so than other laptops.

A lot of people who buy them don't even think about the software they run really, as long as they can do what they want then their happy. The problem comes when they want to run games (think children get new Mac for christmas, what happens when they put COD4 in?!

Also, I am talking about the laptops. I believe that the desktops do not sell as well, because they are obtusely expensive, and they are not as 'cool'. Maybe they do have a niche market with multimedia, but I guarantee far more media is edited and created on PCs than Macs.

The age old 'there more secure' is not really a good argument either, because the reason they are less secure, is because no one can be bothered to hack it, because the market is so small. How many enterprises out there run thousands of Mac workstations?

From what I have seen, most companies only have a max of 2 or 3 employees using Macs, whereas they may have thousands on Windows. These people are normally multimedia / design people. Yes some companies do have entire Mac suites, but it is rare.

Macs are also a complete nightmare from an admin point of view, because they do not tie in with a managed domain nicely, so it is hard to lock users control down. They are then a security risk to the rest of the network.

Lastly, as thingie said, programs are programs, and despite what you say, a PC priced at the same price as a Mac, will run all the Adobe suite far faster. That is pure fact. Look up some rendering results if your still not convinced.

It can be argued though that you can work faster on a Mac, but I think that is more how used to it you are.

I'm not bashing the Mac, I think there laptops are incredible engineering feats, but saying that they are better for any one thing is just not true.

If they really are so much better, why do they still only have a market share that ranges from 3% to 16%? It varies so much because there are different ways of measuring it.

Finally, this is an interesting paragraph I just read on Wikipedia:

I have been reading a bit about Macs use in the corporate world.

Heres a link to a decent discussion on the Adobe forums, and the conclusion they come to is basically that PCs fair better in a corporate environment, and Macs are no better suited.

http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c05c175

And another article on the use of Macs (more optimistic this time, it was on macworld though! :

we have gone way of subject ant we
to be onist if i had the money i would buy a mac and use it just to make movies/edit music mixing picture editing all the rest i do would be on a pc i don't no much about MACs but what i understand is that they are good for what i just mentioned (see it on THE GADGET SHOW) really old program on tv and the MAC wasted no time while the pc was doing its freezing. both computers were brand new and both matched in components there were also laptops
i will always have a pc for one reason i like the OS even vista! lol (xp better lol)
i played around with a MAC for 5 minutes in pc world completely different i actelly scared me and i and walked off hehe ( i don't want the motherboard built into the monitor eneyway...how would i mod that! if i did have the money to get one i think a mod i could do is put the motherboard in a tower!
and can cant use eney keyboard you want too...MAC have took MY taste away by doing that. but am not the type of person that fits into the price of MAC'S and most people that are just want the so called best..with the more expensive the better ey? lol

Not true - macs don't have nearly as many background services running as Windows machines do.

I saw your past which said 'macs cause cancer' however saw no evidence to back up your claim. Also, nothing causes cancer it just increases ones chances of getting it - take smoking, it doesn't cause cancer just increases your chances of getting it.

The last time I saw a comparisson between Macs and PCs running Photoshop was the CS2 days and it ran better in Windows. For a real comparisson you need to use the exact same hardware.

I don't like Macs. I don't like the price. I don't like the look, but most of all I do not like the way the software behaves. A lot of the time it's counter intuitive to what you expect, either from known circumstances or from "reality". All I've used it for is testing purposes... last time I used them heavy was when I went around the mac store and crashed roughly half there computers before they kicked me out.

If photoshop runs better on windows, then I would love to know why they use a mac for taking screenshots in the CS3 manual - especially as more of the population have PC's than macs.

It looks nice? I don't know... maybe more Mac users buy the software? I really don't care, it's just something I read whenever the CS2 final came out.

I don't really mind, if you want to use Macs, go ahead and use it, just don't annoy me saying it's better... because I know that Linux is better.
