Default Hardware upgrading - compatability

I need to rebuild my pc after a major catastrophe which fried the chip and would appreciate any comments as to suitability and compatability of the following for use with windows XP......alternative suggestions welcome.
Budget £300 max, use for home and moderate gaming and with future upgrading in mind....
CPU : Intel core 2 duo E6750
Board : Asus P5KC
Graphics : ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB

I am also considering the ATI X1950 Pro 512MB but not sure if this would be better or if it would work with XP.

Many thanks.

From the review I read in an earlier copy of Custom PC magazine, that motherboard you've chosen has its major advantages along with major flaws.

Try reading this

It can easily push your E6750 up to 3.66ghz stable (with a bit of over-volting), though it does not like high frequency ram.

Read the article and you'll be a lot wiser on that motherboard :)

Thanks for your help.

Ok, so if I understand correctly.......provided I stay within the "as supplied" operating parameters then things should work reasonably well ??

how feasible, cost wise, would it be to completely upgrade an old laptop to a modern spec. and would the new parts fit in the old case?

Laptops are not generally worth upgrading unless you just want to add more RAM.

Parts are often model specific. Better just to buy new in my opinion.
