Having Windows 98 Start Up Issues

I have a dell dimension 4100 and it has windows 98se installed. when i turnon the pc i get a message saying invalid boot disk. insert boot disk in drive A: i do not have the boot disk for this i just got it from someone that was throwing it away. How do i get around this or is there a problem with a hardware or something. the machine has these installed.

Sounds like your hard drive may have failed.

Do you know how to access your BIOS and see if it shows up in there?

i cant get pass that screen push a button same message comes up. but normally i do i havent used 98 at all just xp and vista.

The BIOS is the setup before anything else.

In there will be a tab for drives, your CD/DVD and HDDs will be listed is they are working.

is there a floppy disk in the floppy drive? if there is, windows wont boot unless its a startup recovery disk. thts the first think i would check. if the hard drive failed, i think it would say media test failure. but i could be wrong. in any case, make sure there is no floppy disk inside.
