Hi everybody,
Ihave a problem in as much as when I am using the pc for what I call usual stuff such as browsing / emails etc,its fine but if I work it a bit by say playing DVDs or watching online videos/films,
after a while it sometimes either goes completely blank or just simply freezes, I use a PCchips SocketA 748 mother board ,
AMD Radeon 3200+ processor, 1 gb Crucial memory seagate H/D
it runs at about 48 degrees which I understand is not bad ,
I have tried changing the processor and Grahics card but still get the same problem, does anyone think it could be the motherboard as this is all I can think of is left,

thanks for reading

regards tony

PSU.

GFX card's drawing more amps than it can handle when you're doing complex stuff like watching DVDs, system can't get enough juice, dies.

Yes, unless you want to buy new parts.

Still, it's not going to help. The obvious culprit here is the PSU.

Hello mate ,thanks for answering, I changed the power supply as soon as this started happening, my best guess is that the Motherboard cant supply at a rate that the Graphics card wants,
will try downloading latest drivers , if that doesnt work I will change the card to a less demanding one,

thanks fellas

Wouldn't replacing the PSU be a better option?

apparently he did, but I don't really see how this could be the mb

op, have you tried running Memtest86 or removing a stick of RAM and trying?

It could also be that the video card might be dying. It might be time to buy a new card for the PC along with a new PSU to make sure everything is powered nicely. The most this could run you is $200 dollars and it could breathe some new life into your machine.

Most of this is just speculation at this point because you looked at the more obvious culprits thus far. I agree with Carbon though. The symptoms are NOT correlated to a failing motherboard. You would be experiencing symptoms far worse than that such as constant restarts, refusal to boot or power on, as well as maybe some serious errors occurring during use. A frozen display, or a display that isn't working properly is related strictly to the card and the PSU in my book. I'm not sure what the point is in looking at other components.

I doubt the RAM is causing an issue because the symptoms don't match a RAM problem. Constant restarts, and operating system errors are signs that your RAM is acting up.

Hi Guys Well

It must have been a software problem as I decided after much deliberation to dump windows as I was getting far too many
problems just of late and in the back of my mind I have had a
suspicion that the O/P system my be having a hand in the problems I was having, so I bit the bullet and opted for a new Linux installation, and so far I have not been having any more problems of the sort that I previously encountered, so fingers crossed ,
I will keep you informed,

bst regards and thanks for all your help,
