Default Help with keeping new computer clean

Im getting my new computer on thursday and wanted to know how to keep it running at its full potential, as in which firewall shall I have? what is recommended and what can I do daily to keep it protected (ie. disk defrag, cleanup, virus updates, etc) I just want it to run smoothely and good as I want to watch a lot of movies on it. It has a amd 5000 processor, 382 mb onboard gfx, and 2gb ram, will this be ok to run movies and be of an ok quality? the screen im getting is a 19" widescreen also, i am having this on my network. i would also like to store a lot of movies on my computer as it has a 400gb harddrive, will having a lot of things on my hard drive make my computer run slowly? an extra tips also would be great thanks everyone

sorry if this is in wrong catagory
