Default HELP!! Lightning Struck the House and Computer Will Not Display.

Please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong area. Since I am not confident as to the failure I have posted in the general area.

Last night the power pole next to my house was struck by lightning. It blew the fuse on the pole and no other damage was done to the house. I have my entire computer and TV on surge protectors, except for the monitor.

Every thing powered up great after the incident but my computer. I am going to attempt to explain the symptoms without giving too much info (please let me know if I have left out some vital info).

I can turn on power and the Power Supply lights come on and the fans in the case and on the CPU turn on also. My monitor turns says that it is looking for a digital signal and then the screen goes blank and it looks like the monitor goes to sleep.

The hard drive seems to be working fine (you can see the light flickering). I took the monitor off of my room mates computer and plugged it into my computer. Unfortunately, it is an analog monitor and I have a ATI Radeon HDMI video card. Once I put an adapter connector (D-Sub to DVI) all that I get is some pretty weird pixilation. Granted, my monitor is a LG HD digital Flatron and my roommates monitor is an Analog LCD. (Maybe that test tells us nothing…..I had to try).

Everyone here at work says that I probably blew my video card…..can anyone come up with a possible different failure?

Any help would be appreciated

Welcome to CJ,

Monitors say that message when they do not get a signal from the PC, so it is likely that is at fault here, not the monitor.

As you had a power surge sounds like a text book blown power supply.

And yes, faulty power supplys commonly power on in part and work fans and LEDs etc.
