| Hi, Well one of the PC's in the house has broke, some old packard bell. and in turn it has led me to seeking some advice on a new computer. I am looking to build it my self have a basic knowledge of building, but my main concern is where to find what I need at the right price. The computer is mainly used for surfing the internet, word processing and light gaming. I am looking to spend around £400 just on the system. need everything from case to USB ports. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced. Callum. |

| Ok, well nothing very high end will be needed. Just something reliable and fast. I'm guessing your not looking to overclock. I'll have a snoop now. |

Could be better but its a start for a great price. Theres a little preliminary set up. I could reccomend maybe the E8400 processor if you want to upgrade, and a better PSU could be put in if the budget will stretch. The 8600GT isn't the best gaming card, but it is half the price of a 8800GT, but i depends on the type of gaming you want to be able to achieve. The motherboard is fine, for a simple set-up might be useful to spend a little more on the motherboard however, as it will allow you to easily upgrade in the future. |

| I'd just get a prebuilt or secondhand with a PCI-E slot if all that's all you're going to do with it.

| I would pay the extra £5 and go for the Maxtor 500GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm *32MB Cache* - OEM drive here: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/141471 |

| Yeah. But. Maxtor drives 'ent a patch on Samsung as far as reliability goes IMO.

| Maxtor by name only, Maxtor is now actually Seagate and the extra 16mb catch makes a difference on such a big drive. I always use Seagate drives so I would disagree with your reply. ![]() |
