Default Help! Need Advice on New system

Hi,

Well one of the PC's in the house has broke, some old packard bell. and in turn it has led me to seeking some advice on a new computer. I am looking to build it my self have a basic knowledge of building, but my main concern is where to find what I need at the right price. The computer is mainly used for surfing the internet, word processing and light gaming. I am looking to spend around £400 just on the system. need everything from case to USB ports.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.

Callum.

Ok, well nothing very high end will be needed. Just something reliable and fast. I'm guessing your not looking to overclock.

I'll have a snoop now.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz 1333FSB Socket 775 4MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor

Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L iP31 Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard

Inno3D 8600GT 256MB 128bit DDR3 DVI PCI-E Graphics Card

Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 675MHz/PC2-5400 XMS Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL4(4-4-4-12) Heat Spreader Lifetime Warranty

EV Black Mid Tower Gaming Case with Massive 14cm Front Fan - No PSU

Coolermaster eXtreme Power 380W PSU - ATX12V V2.01 20+4pin 1x PCI-E 2x SATA

LiteOn DH-20A1S 20X DVD1RW/DLRAM Black Bare Drive - OEM

Samsung SpinPoint HD501LJ 500GB SATAII Hard Drive 16MB Cache - OEM

This set up comes to £384 on ebuyer. Could be better but its a start for a great price.

Theres a little preliminary set up. I could reccomend maybe the E8400 processor if you want to upgrade, and a better PSU could be put in if the budget will stretch.

The 8600GT isn't the best gaming card, but it is half the price of a 8800GT, but i depends on the type of gaming you want to be able to achieve. The motherboard is fine, for a simple set-up might be useful to spend a little more on the motherboard however, as it will allow you to easily upgrade in the future.

I'd just get a prebuilt or secondhand with a PCI-E slot if all that's all you're going to do with it.

Maxtor by name only, Maxtor is now actually Seagate and the extra 16mb catch makes a difference on such a big drive. I always use Seagate drives so I would disagree with your reply.
