Hi all...
I need help...
monday...labour day here...both in house PC died...one had HDD problems which are now fixed...
but the other was victim of DDR tampering ...inserted upside down by teenage yougin'...but since...I got new RAM the computer seems to boot but screens remains blank....I purchased a new video card...with no result...broke down and bought new sata HDD ready to reinstall XP and assume lost of data...still no results...
the power supply seems fine as I see fans running and hear drives churning...optical drive(DVDRAM) seem to work
is my motherboard fried ?
can anyone help ?

What happens when you turn it on, do you see the BIOS post screens?

Or is it totally blank from power on?

totally blank...only the fans fire up...as optical drive

Ok so first thing to do is check all the cables if someone has been inside messing with things.

Then swap is the PSU, could be this and it is also the cheapest option. Just because the PC powers on does not mean the PSU is kosha.

Then as you have said you put RAM in wrong motherboard would be next.

PSUs are notoriously fragile, just because it appears to work and fans spin does not mean it is.

I'd say 90% of these similar scenarios are PSUs.

RAM inserted incorrectly could cause some form of power issue to blow it.

For $20 it's a easy thing to try before you start digging deeper and spending more.
