Default Help Urgently Needed...Monitor Error

Basically ive put a graphics card from my old computer into my friends new computer

He had a 128mb geforce 5200fx
I gave him a 256mb geforce 5600fx

and i also gave him a spare gig of ram from the old system.
He had a 1gb 400mhz PNY technologies
i gave him 1gb 400mhz PNY technologies from mine.
He also had a 512 PC3200 which has been removed.

So now when i turn on the computer the fans run the CD drives run so im guessing the hard drives work if the CD drives work. But the screen just stays blank not picking up a thing while turned on. And the keyboard isnt starting and its NOT USB so i think the bios is not loading im not too sure. Please if anyone knows how to go about fixing this please posssssst!

Many Thanks,

Brad.

Remove the RAM you gave him.

Does it work now?

The test is to remove anything you added, starting with the RAM and if that fails go back to the old graphics card.

Sooner or later you will find the culprit.

Either you did something wrong in installing the graphics card or fried the motherboard.

it sounds like a motherboard problem. somehow the thing got fried.

the thing with this is.....motherboards and windows xp come with very very basic video drivers to allow your graphics card to work to the point where you can see what you're doing, and thereby allow you to install the software and proper video drivers. so plugging in the card should've worked at first no matter what.

since absolutely nothing works, you can be pretty damn sure that when you were plugging stuff in, you didn't take the right static electricity precautions and various other precautions to make sure you didn't break anything.

i'm not sure if you can get a new one. it sounds very very old given that it uses DDR1 ram at 400mhz. you likely won't even find that motherboard around anymore. and what that means is scrap almost everything but the tower, the cd drives, hard drives, peripherals, and video card. it's all pretty much dead to you now. you need some new ram, a new processor, and a new motherboard.

and if i read you correctly, it sounds like your buddy isn't exactly very rich at the moment...meaning he might not be able to afford so much as the replacement motherboard if you find one. just a guess...but seeing as you're giving him parts, i'd stick by that wager.
