Hi all,
Whenever I use my USB port to puanyting onto my computer it seems to throw a fit and crash. For example, I am trying to upload some footage from my camcorder and it will be plodding along fine and then the PC will start to make a long constant beep before closing everything down and turning off the computer. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Stuart |

If you are using front ports, try using one of the rear ports, straight from the motherboard and see if this helps.

The most probable cause of one long continuous beep is Ram failure.
If you have more than one stick of Ram, try removing one stick, if no better swap them around, keeping to one stick. If Ram is the issue, this may identify the bad stick. |

Cheers I will give it a go. Is there anything I can do before I start taking my PC apart or is that method of getting things sorted?

Not much software tweaking you can do really. The next likely culprit after Ram would be PSU, but both will require opening her up.
If you have any other USB Devices pulling power or bandwidth, you could try unplugging them. |

Hi Phil,
I finally got around to looking at the RAM and both chips and ports seem fine. I recently bought a USB wireless adapter which may affect it. The computer occassionally has started beeping and crashing recently without me trying to upload anything but the wireless adapter is still in. When the beeping starts the CPU Usage shoots up from anything from 40% to 95%. If you have any other suggestions that'd be great. Cheers, Stu |

With the PC turned off and unplugged, discharge yourself by touching the outside of the case then try taking out one stick of memory and using your PC normally, if there are problems put the stick back in and take out the other one, again use your PC normally and observe if there are any problems. Report back if the problem is solved. Are you sure the PC is not overheating try Speedfan and report back with your temperatures. My System: xX_TeK_GaMeR_Xx

Sorry I didn't mean I just looked at them I meant looked into the problem.
I took out one RAM stick and the PC booted up fine, then I put the stick back in and took out the other one and the PC booted up fine, then I put them both back in making sure to switch them and everything was working as before. I also did the memory test from the website http://www.memtest86.com/ and that test said everything was ok. |
