Call of Duty 2? Or MW2? There's no real upgrade you can make to this system, the processor's very old and the motherboard doesn't support Core 2s. It should handle older games fine, HD video fine, and newer games okay.

As Carbon said, it'll flatten CoD2. Modern Warfare 2 shouldn't be too taxing on it either. HD video is fine on pretty much any PCI-e graphics card so no worries there

Hello, Thankyou Carbon and Razor very much for having a look, i meant MW2 but if you wouldn't mind explaining why there is no upgrade possible? couldn't i just find a relatively cheap new motherboard and processor?

Aside from that i think then that there must be something wrong because i cant really watch HD properly without it jumping too much, and MW2 is unplayable, i was wondering if these registry programs work at making my computer that fast? although i dont think that it's the problem?

The registry wont help your speed much, run CCleaner if you like though.

For an upgrade, you could pick up a decent Gigabyte motherboard and an Athlon II 245 for around £150. That 8800GTX should pump out MW2 at medium settings at least. That Pentium D is horribly inefficient anyway, that AMD is a bit better and should get you through HD well enough.

Sorry man but your hardware is on the old side and you might want to look getting a new box.

His 8800 isn't that old and can still chuck out a good portion of the games today. A new motherboard and CPU should be put in before the graphics card. The 8800 still has a year or 2 left before it becomes unusable.

Hello guys thanks for all the help and after a long consideration i'm going to get a new motherboard and cpu, could anyone help to know what kind to buy and which ones are recommended., (and if possible a descent amount to expect for each of the previous parts on ebay)

budget is probably around £100-200, depending on what i get on ebay
needs to be able to cope with watching hd films and playing cod mw2 at the same time on different screens to be completely honest, i think thats probably about the toughest thing i put it through

Any help or questions would be great
look forward to hearing from you.

Athlon 240 and a Gigabyte mobo should see you through those fairly easily. Your HD and games will be GPU rendered (hopefully) so your CPU doesn't need to process the world backwards
The following user says thank you to Razer for this post:

I'd up it to a 435 if budget allows, but I'd definitely say get it off a retail store instead of eBay

Most of the work that goes into processing a game is on the graphics card. The CPU typically does a lot less, so it's much more of a budget-friendly option to get a cheaper CPU and a better GPU.

GIGABYTE is a reseller/brand/what have you of motherboards. You'll probably want to look into the MA770T-UD3 which is a pretty cheap AMD motherboard but has good features and is very stable.

Hi again!!!!
I now have the money to spend and would like to ask you guys what you thought, if i were to get a intel quad processor ranging from £100-£160, but i wasn't sure which motherboard to get which supports lga 775 (or another if needed), preferably under £100
All advice welcome!!!!!!!

Well, step 1 is to avoid LGA775 since it's dead and go get an LGA1156 socket mobo and a Gigabyte motherboard with an I5-750
