You are entering a new territory here...This takes LOTS of research before moving forward...There's lots of variables to consider...What Mobo are you using? Is the bios unlocked for overclocking? (Like Award Bios) What RAM are you using? How much Power are you using? What Cooling are you using???READ a bunch then ask questions and go from there...When it comes to Overclocking, the more you know the better!!!That's unless you got alot of money and don't mind burning up stuff! :-)Personally I Overclock my computer...but I do it the way that's best for "my" computer....If you are planning on getting up to 3GHz on the CPU be ready to add a custom Heatsink and use the best heatsink paste you can get to keep it nice and cool...this means spending more money...that and additional fans to the case if you don't use water cooling...http://www.extremeoverclocking.com/

for overclocking, you can download the following program:http://www.cpuid.com/clockgen.phpabout what would be a good speed, well, it's a rather complicated topic, so you better search for it using google...

Go to intels site they will have the answers their,if it can be overclocke you must compensate for the heat generated or you wil blow the cpu, now days the motherboards have fixed speeds on the board some still have switchs to overclock the CPU but check with intel or an experinced person in over clocking, I am teling you this because I used to over clock my cpu's sometimes I got good results sometimes I got expensive results. I know that is not what you asked but I am trying to help you to read and understand the manufactures way they set up the processor and what it will take to blow the chip, also understanding how the chip functions gives you an ideal if the chip will preform any better if over clocked. Sometimes you lose more than you gain, sometimes you blow it all for just a little extra speed, for me now performace is important but reliability is more so, and when you overclock you change many paremeters that were not intended.
