I know they both need to be connected via a network card and cable and that’s all I no. once these are connected I would like lets say PC2 to be able to access and use files, documents on PC1, but I would not want PC2 to be able to access my sage programme and other private documents is this possible, how do I do it
Many Thanks

The other topic was in the right forum, no need to post it twice.

What you are suggesting is ok with either XP or Vista.

As you say, you will need a Network Card in each PC and a crossover cable (not normal patch) to connect the two.

You can set up File Sharing on each of the PCs and share any folders/files you choose.

If you are using XP, you need to run the Network wizard on each PC, to set up a Small Office/Home Network.

If you want these computers to also have internet access the best bet would be to purchase a router.

Yep .... a router would be ideal .... this way the main PC does not have to be switched on for the 2nd PC to accees the internet.
