Default I cant Believe it!

I came home today to find there was no electric.. And our key meter wasn’t working. It then came back on a few hours later and my PC WONT start!

The power light and the DVD drive light just flashes, it doesn’t make no sound no fans or anything.

I can’t turn it on but it is still flashing.

I’m well angry!

I went to a computer shop today to get a quote to replace the power pack thing.

The quote I was given is 70 pound is this good or bad? As I'm not sure what would be the price for doing this job.

Depends what power pack he's putting in I't should'nt take more than 30 mins to swop them around. Power Supply Units or PSU can cost from £30 - £200. I used to have a £30 400 watt supply. I had to replace it twice in 3 years. So I don't use low cost PSUs anymore and prefair the quiet type which adds alot to the cost.

My 3D working computer I have a £120 550 watt supply with no fans so its silent. It monitors the power going through and protects the PC internals from power surge and spikes. On my 3D rendering computer I have a £70 480 watt Power supply it has a fan but only speeds up when it needs to makeing it near quiet. Both PSUs are able to power server motherboards as well as standard and have more than enough power leads as well as sata power leads. They will last a long long time. A good make to go for is Tagan.

When it's fixed get a power surge protector they claim to extend the life of anything pluged into them and as a bonus some of the belkin ones are insured for electrical damage upto £100,000. They iether really believe in there product or it is a form of equipment insurance.

Thanks for the advice that's really helped. I just simply want it replaced like for like, but I am not sure what watt it is.

Mine has lasted about 3-4 years so far but only packed in because of the power surge, so I will definitely be looking into a surge protector as I don’t wish this to happen again.

Many thanks your information has been very helpful to me I will find out what watt mine is and see what the average price of it is, to see if I am getting a good deal or not.

Thanks
