Currently my PC temperature is 42c which looks quite high.

My system is:

Intel Quad core @ 2.67Ghz for the 2 x 2 cores
8GB ram
Nvidia 1gb graphics card
windows vista business
4mb cache
64-bit system
etc..

people say if it's over 65c then its unsafe, is that true?

What kinda Quad is it? Q6700, i7, Xeon?

Its is very hot these days anyway
What cooler are you using? If stock then that is probably about normal

The max temps my CPU can take is 74c so its dependent on CPU type and im not sure which yours is though

If my CPU got to 60 c I would shut down immediatly because this is a very high temp and I wouldnt want to risk these temps, but saying that quad core will always be hotter as the cpu's are x 4 and now they are bigger and more powerfull.

60C is fine as a load temp.

Yh agreed, if your quad was idle at this I would say something is wrong in your system. Are you overclocking it or anything? is it stock cooler you have on ? stock heatsink ?

Mine runs at that over clocked. It's nothing to worry about at all! These are designed to run at 100 degrees or so, no problems at 40 degrees at all. If it was 90 or so then get a bit worried but even 60 is fine at a 100% load temp.

Go with Carbons advice, everyone who does goes home happy.

Nothing wrong with 60 as said.

My Q6600 OC'd @ 3.66 got 75C (load)

Which was stable, but I run it lower than that anyway as you can see on my sig, so I can't give you any long term info on that.

But 42 Is absolutly fine.
