Well i just put together a very sexy gaming computer. Core 2 duo, sli, 19"monitor so on. The only problem is i installed vista. Please don't ask why. There is one problem with vista that makes me curse more then if someone had dropped a safe on my foot. When ever i am playing a game, css,hl2,fear,q4, so on.., it is guarnteed that vista will shut down. Just shut down out of the blue, no warning nothing. Its like someone just pulled out the power cord. This is very annoying because its almost timed. With css i play for about 2-3 minutes and then it shuts down. I get a good 10 mins with quake 4 and f.e.a.r. goes even longer. I have updated vista several times, although 1 update cant be installed, and i have tried downloading the latest drivers for my evga 8600gt cards.. but those made vista crash to the point where i was lucky if i made it to the log on screen.

Here are my full system specs...

Please, any help will be very appreciated. If i cant get vista to game without shutting down on me i will have to spend $150 more dollars to get xp. Or go to ubuntu and use win, but that is the extreme measure.

Thank you for your help.

I would be more inclined to point the finger at a hardware fault rather than Vista mate.

First port of call is to removed one of the cards and disable SLI. You running the latest driver?

You should be able to check the gpu's temps in Nvidia's control panel.

Or for nearly accurate temps download speedfan here

It has been updated for Vista but if you don't see the motherboard's temp let me know.

If the PC won't stay on long enough then the temps should be displayed in the BIOS also.
