Default Im really confused

Well my dad called and told me the place he works at is gonna buy him a computer and the max price is $1200. I'm pretty sure they want it from a box or something, and he wants to know what the best possible computer he can get for that price.

He's got DSL super or something like that so his internet is good, and they are letting him take it home. No restrictions other than the price.

He wants to be able to play good games on it, and will probably buy a good graphics card/more RAM if it doesn't come with the comp.

He saw one comp with 400 gig memory that was Hewlatt Packard but he isn't sure.

He needs it today so it can't be anything online.

what about this??

http://www.alienware.com/product_det...EFAULT#pdp-nav

is that just the tower thing not like a monitor and stuff?

what is the best possible computer he can get for $1200 with a mouse/keyboard/monitor?

All you can really do is research. There are a ton of different computer makers out there. I do like the Alienware computers, I have never personally owned one but I do know that they are great gaming computers. I doubt he would have seen a computer with 400gigs of memory, that alone would cost $1200. And you can't put that much memory in a computer. He probably was meaning the hard drive capacity. :)

The guide has a setup at the bottom that is about $1100 with a monitor and case. Alienware is overpriced junk tbh - note there's a 8600GTS (which won't run anything at good resolution) and a mediocre CPU.

That is very true. But Alienware are some of the better computers you can get if you don't want to build one yourself. I highly recomend to just build one but its sounds like you probably can't. Like I said before research a bunch of different computer makers and pick one you like. Then you can put all the specs on here and we can tell you how good it is or isn't. I suggest you take a look at www.ibuypower.com
They have some decent computers on there.
Carbon, I have a 7600GT that I run Crysis with. Sure I can't get awesome resolutions with it but it works. An 8600GT is alright for now, I know that later in the future my card and the 8600GT will be junk. But if he isn't a hard core gamer a 8600GT is perfectly fine. Plus you could upgrade later when the 8800s come down in price a bit.
