Default Intel or AMD?

Are you an Intel person or an AMD one?

Personally, I'm a fan of AMD - to me they've always been the cheaper, but still really good, alternative, and I've always seen them as being the chip for gamers, where Intel I've always seen as the 'office' processor.

I know its not strictly true, and Intel have put out some good stuff - the extreme editions, and now the Core Duo, but I do still prefer AMD personally - AMD have put out some decently priced, really high performance stuff.

What do you prefer?

My next PC will be Intel core Duo 2 quad core they manage more processing Mhz for Mhz than any other processor. It's miles ahead of AMD now. Every time I build or upgrade I do research and buy with an unbiased view. by the time it's time to buy AMD may have brought out a new type of processor for it's new sockets AM2 and Socket F which have a lot of improvements for memory upgrades than the socket 940 and 939. Socket F processors have 1200 pins, and allows you to switch memory types without having to buy a new motherboard. Anyone care to tell me what difference adding that many pins makes it sounds good.

AMD have joined with ATI so the next processor should be great.
Nvidia are now working on their first processor.

I've been a bit of an AMD convert for the past three or four years now having switched over to an AMD XP CPU on my last machine and now onto a 64 Bit chip and I have no intentions of going back to Intel.

I think that they are overpriced in many aspects, and whilst costs do continue to come down, you get more punch for general use from an AMD Processor.

Granted, Intel CPU's have their advantages, namely in floating point intensive applications, though for the average home user they won't really notice the difference.

Intel processors were only doing better at Mp3 encoding and that was all they were better at pound for pound it's a myth that they are better for office and media work and worse for games.

I also want the Intel Core Duo for my upgrades, however it is just too expensive for my budget at the moment. So I decided to go for the cheaper option and go AMD. I think that they are both around the same, but AMD seem to be cheaper.

The Core 2 is alot faster than anthing AMD but you need to see some bench tests and get whats best for your cash. The core 2 chips come in cut down versions too. Don't make the mistake of buying a Core 1 CPU as these are far slower than the AMD 64 chips.

Beware of dual core processors.only around 5% of software is programed to make use of more than one core. For most a single core with higher Mhz would be faster.
