Default It's been a while!

Thanks Alex
You can't imagine how much your help is appreciated!
Just customised the computer which was on mesh these are the original specs
at around £1117

I've upgraded the video card from the two 256mb 8600's to

-768MB nVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX - Dual DVI, HDTV, TV-Out (extra £200)

I took the 5.1 surround sound off (don't have the room to have speakers all around my room) and will buy the logitech 2.1 you suggested (saved me £14 off the total cost of the system)

Upgraded standard cordless keyboard to rechargeable MX Revolution mouse and G15 keyboard Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard + MX Revolution Cordless Rechargeable Laser Mouse (extra £79)

Added Belkin Wireless G USB Network Adapter (extra £17)

Total £1453.18

Even though I have everything there except speakers it still seems a little steep would the video card be that much of a jump?

The GTX is an awesome gaming card, It's overkill for that resolution though. But you could always use the excuse "future proofing"

But. 667mhz ram is lousy for a quad. Quads are a lot more bandwidth hungry than their dual-core bretheren. I'd recommend 1066mhz ram for a gaming build using a quad. Or at a pinch, 800mhz.

I'd also strongly advise at least a 650w psu for a GTX and a quad. Although mesh only offer a 1kw psu as an upgrade, which is overkill.

Lastly, sorry, should have mentioned this earlier. The 650i chipset is nothing to write home about. Also, it's an SLI chipset and you're only going single card.

My concern with mesh is the lack of options. I couldn't really see a decent build on there that didn't have the 650i chipset. If you're going for a gaming build I'd strongly advise P965, P35 or X38 maximus chipset's due to the low latency these chipsets provide.

And yeah, the price does seem a tad steep. But you also have to take into account the costly mouse and keyboard into your spec.

fair enough, so overclockers rig is still tops, i'm leaning towards it just trying to fine point the peripherals namely the monitor.
Did you say that it's upgradeable in the near future?
I am a pretty avid gamer but things like having the absolute best graphics don't bother me if I have seamless gameplay on medium

If you're not so fussed about top settings at that resolution then a 320mb 8800GTS will more than suffice. Or a 640mb GTS for a wider choice of options.

Yup, upgradeable in the near future.

when you say a wider choice of options, what do you mean?
Also I should be looking for 22 inch plus monitor right?

The extra 320mb ram on the 640mb GTS will, potentially, allow you a higher level of Anti Aliasing in games at the resolution of a 22" screen.

Yup, 20-22" screen (these screen sizes all display the same resolution).

Ok so say I went for a 22 inch widescreen, apart from watching movies how would it work when I play games? Would I get a stretched image?

OK guys
I watched a few videos on youtube and I figure it aint so hard to put together a computer, so if anyone has any idea on a top set up for around £900
Ideally I would like to get the most value for money but I know that performance comes at a price and figure ill be saving money by building it myself (hopefully you guys can help with any incompatibility issues I may have, before I buy the parts)
cheers guys!

I'll provide some help a little later, a bit busy right now.

You could watch this Youtube video for fun... apparently the guy got caught for pirating... I was wondering how he got such a good set up. It comes in 5 lengthy installments, but chronicles the effort that goes into building a computer very well.

Well, yes you would. Simply because the ratio is different on w/s screens. But games are written to take advantage of widescreen tft's. So the image wouldn't appear to be stretched by the monitor.
