hi there, i am new to this forum and ihave a major issue with my system.

first of all several months back now i did spyware checks and removed spyware then tried uninstalling some unwanted virus protection software, because it was so long back i cannot remember exatly what happend but all i remember is restarting my computer and the keybaord lighting up as normal until i reach the login to user page.

at this point the only light on the keyboard that is lit up is the number lock light,
and the keyboard will not respond to any of my actions, no lights will turn on or off, and nothign will type. this keyboard works perfectly fine on other computers, but will not with this particular harddrive. i emphasise it being the harddrive is the source of the problem, not the connection or any wiring faults, if anyone could help me break this problem down to get back into my system and save all my pictures, word documents and music i would be very much appreciate.

if anyone knows anything that may be of help to me please either reply in this post of reply to my e-mail address: <No Email addresses Please> if you will.

thank you very very much for your time on this thread

Is this a USB or a PS2 keyboard ? ... What Operating System ?

Also what actually happens when you boot up ? ....i.e. does Windows load ok ? or do you get an error message ? .... if so what is the message ?

hello thank you for your interest in this thread

when i boot up windows, everything runs as per normal until i get to the login screen.

no error messages.
no misfunctions
nothing.

everything loads perfectly well, but then the keyboard decides that it donesnt want to respond to my requests. the mouse works fine. just cannot tpye to access my user account. i do not have a guest account or any other accounts, just the one. its really fustrating me that i cannot access my computer and i have been using an old spare computer. i hope this information helps us discover the problem.

oh sorry, yeah it is a ps/2 keybaord and mouse. the keyboard works perfect on other motherboards, just doesnt seem to like the harddrive it is interfaced with.

Try borrowing/aquiring a USB keyboard and see if this works.

Have you tried entering bios at post usually repeatedly hitting F8 or the delete key, if you can't get it to work there, it's something on the PS/2 input(mobo) if you can something has got to windows spyware /virus or perhaps a corrupt file. Till we know which way to go it's difficult to say. as philthomas said USB keyboard should work if its a PS/2 problem.
