Laptop Connected Monitor Not Responding

atm iv got my laptop connected up to my monitor. but everytime iv been on my leptop for more then 30 mins, both my laptop and my monitor black out for a second or two then go back to the srcreen, it does this 3 or 4 times and then the lpatop restarts.have u any idea whats the problem and what i can do to fix it.
quite a lot of time my CPU usage is at about 95-100% although my RAM is only at about 60%?????

I doubt this has any significance to having an external monitor connected. Sounds like with a CPU load that high the laptop is overheating and thus restarting. You need to find the root of the CPU load. What is showing in task manager, that should tell you the source of the CPU load.

okay,
firstly, what is the CPU load, and how do i find it?
also, when i dont have the monitor connected, i dont get this problem...
