 leaving hardware on Is there any problem with leaving hardware on? except the enviromental issues, except for the odd reboot my pc has stayed on for atleast 6months, i have also got an external hard drive that i never power down, would this dramatically shorten the lives of either?       |

 , what about the hard drive, is that the smae, if its sitting there and not being accessed(just for storage), does the motor still spin? or is that only when retrieving? |

| leaving hardware on 3.5" externals are just internal hdd's in an enclosure. As such they power themselves down (the spindle and heads) after a certain amount of minutes of inactivity anyway. Basically they go into standby.
