Default Logitech MX518 Mouse Problem

Hey guys

I've had my MX518 for almost a year and a half now

just recently it has been cutting out for no reason atall

it cuts out all the time. the light goes off and i have to unplug it and plug it in again for it to work. sometimes the mouse just stops but the light stays on and then the mouse comes back on after a few seconds.

I have read up abit about this (there isnt much) and its says that MX518's do have problems with USB ports but i dont really understand. I have uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled nothing works.

ITS SO ANOYING!!!

Anyone had this at some point? or heard about it?

James

Actually James, thinking about this.

Are the USB ports on your mobo USB 1.0 or USB 2.0?

With the mouse being a gaming-grade mouse (1600dpi i believe) thats an awful lot of traffic to be putting through a stream with the bandwidth of USB 1.0

Just an idea.

Follow the below:

Click start

move your mouse cursor to my computer

Highlight my computer

Right click

Click properties

Click Hardware

Click the Device Manager button

At the bottom of the list you should see: Universal Serial Bus Controllers

Click on the +

The one that says Enhanced (if any) is the USB 2

James, I have a similar problem with my MX-518 logitec mouse. I have also had mine for approximately a year. The problem seems to occur whenever the mouse is turned upside down, though sometimes it will cut out anyway.

Read the wikipedia article, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logitech_MX-518.

It says "There have been a number of reports where several gamers' MX-518 mice stopped functioning after a few months of use ... Logitech responded to these complaints by releasing an updated version of the mouse, with an entirely new sensor engine."

It seems that Logitech acknowledged the flaw and instead of defending themselves, released an entirely new mouse. "Sorry folks."

After some breif research I'm pretty sure that the new moust is called the Logitech MX 1000 Laser Cordless Mouse, and the new sensor system doesn't have a red optical light, it's invisible. It's describled as "the fastest optical mouse in the world".

I'd say there is simply a problem with the mouse. You sohuld buy a new one or learn to get around it, I think.

No, the new mouse is exactly the same. The MX1000 is a completely different product.

This can be caused by things like improper ACPI on the USB controller (make sure it can't go into sleep to save power in Device Manager), or exceedingly more likely, a bad solder joint where the cord goes into the top of the mouse. This is basic mechanical failure and happens with every mouse when you beat the cord up enough, stop being so hard on your mice! :p
