I've got some emulatros like SNES, NES, Sega Megadrive etc... and the 8-way usb gampads are useless for retro gaming. I've been playing Legend Of Zelda and when I press to walk down, unless i'm deadly accurate with my button pressing, Zelda walks slightly sideways, which in turns gets me killed. So I need a gamepad with a 4 way directional pad.

I know playstation controllers are available in usb and they have a 4-way directional pad, but do you guys know of any excellent gamepads for playing retro games like this?

heyy,

have you looked at gamecube controllers? they have a 4way pad, as well as a stick. ive been using one of those on a usb adapator (ebay i think) for years, on everything from retro arcade games to things like need for speed.
you can pick gamecube controllers up for dirt cheap now, even a cheap copy isnt bad!

Just had a look. The button layout on the right isn't very good at all for retro games. Plus they're huge. Its kinda like a space ship steering wheel thingy. I tell ya what I did look at, the Nintendo Wii gamepads, specifically this one :

But I haven't got a clue where to find a usb adapter.

Neither of them sells them. E-bay has retro usb gamepads but they're all from the usa and subject to customs fees and also sold from sellers with quite very feedback. Its a nightmare trying to find a couple of them, or even 1 of them.

Like I said mate, they're too big. And I certainly dont like the look of them. So i'm not gonna be buying an x-box controller.

Check out RetroUSB - RetroZone

Either get an adapter to use with the Wii or if you click on the link "USB" they sell some "old school" gaming pads there.

Thanks, but those retro gamepads are from the usa and you have to pay custom charges on top which I have no idea how much they'd be or how to go around paying them. Plus nintendo wii to usb adapters are non existent that I know of, and i've searched hundreds of sites, asked a hell of a lot of game shops, all with the same answer "sorry mate I haven't got a clue if something like that exists or where you could get hold of it if it did exist".

Its becoming a crusade, and in this day and age it should be easy, after all its the millenium. There's millions of retro gamers out there but currently no-one in the uk makes or sells retro gamepads and caters for all the millions of people into retro gaming. My searches have only led me to websites from the usa, and as I know from experience, quite a few orders from the usa get lost in the post and are more hassle than they're worth, causing you nothing but stress and taking a chunk of your life in which you have to sort out problems, and making it as part of your life you really could do without.

Like I said, its become a crusade.

Sorry didn't realise it was USA.

Quite simple though, just go to google click pages from UK (you still get a few US though) and search USB retro gamepad

Or similar terms.

I found this on eBay seems to be what you're after.
