I have 4 sata and 2 IDE drives in my system at the moment - three of the drives are Maxtors, and they seem to be running very hot - I've even had two of them fail on me.

Maxtor are really good about replacing them, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing.

The rest of the system is fine. I have moved the problem drives to a different area of the case for better ventillation, and I have even tried fans on the drives, although the ones I bought don't seem to be very good.

If anyone else has suffered the same thing, I'd love to swap ideas for solving the problem!

Have you tried installing your computer into a fridge? :)

Hehe creospace I've thought about it :)

I do have liquid cooling, but only over the processor.

I think I might need to find some decent hard drive fans, but I live in a terrible area for PC shops :(

I would change to a bigger case, but the one I have is already very tall, and in most areas the ventillation is very good. Its a special case designed to fit the liquid cooling solution in, and I'd hate to get rid of it.

Maybe I need an external case for the drives :(

Yeah, I do buy from ebuyer a lot of the time, but I've had a lot of problems with mail order stuff lately, so I prefer to see what I'm buying first.

We have computer fairs up here from time to time, but the next one isn't for a month or so. I'm planning on saving up for it and buying a lot of stuff in one go.

The fairs are really good, there are a LOT of retaillers, and you get to inspect the parts before handing over cash, which is a big deal for me.

www.scan.co.uk is good for pc parts. Have you got a case fan pulling air in at the front of the case and one pushing it out at the back? It sounds like a lot of drives I think they are just cooking each other. Their are bigger faster fans that you can buy I have one that sounds like a tornado on my dual socket processor computer. I use a maxtor drive it has lasted longer than the other makes.

Thanks for the thoughts CG Man - as I said in another post I'm not a fan of Scan - great prices, nice products, terrible stock management and service in my opinion :(

The case came with fans set up for decent air flow. You're right I used to have a ton of drives close together, and that didn't exactly help with the heat. I freed up some space at the top of the case and put the 'problem' drives up there, but even with plenty of ventillation they're still roasting hot. :(

I'll have a browse of Scan and see what fans they have, see if any of them look worth trying.

The top of the case is the hotest part, heat rises you need hard drives at the front near bottom where the case fan blows cool outside air over them.
