It would be easier to suggest options if you posted individual prices for each item.
How much is the 7600GS?Maybe you can buy a DX10 card of some description for the same price/cheaper.
Edit:Nevermind the 760OGS is pretty cheap. But individual prices would help to maybe save on some components so you can spend more on others.

This is what I came up with.

Antec P180 V2 Advanced Super Midi Tower Case, Black (no PSU) £79.77

Samsung S182M-RSMM 18x DVD±R, 8x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, DVD-RAM x12, IDE, Multicolour £19.92

AMD AM2 Athlon 64 5200+ Windsor Core, Dual Core 2.6GHz, 2x 1mb Cache, Energy Eff'''' Retail £81.02

250 Gb HGST (IBM/Hitachi) 0A31636/OA33423 Deskstar T7K250, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 8MB Cache, 8.5 ms, NCQ £38.41

2GB (2x1GB) CorsairTwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5-5-5-12 £65.38

Abit KN9-S, NF550, S AM2, PCI-E (x16), DDR2 800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX £46.91

400W Enermax Liberty Modular Series - ELT400AWT £46.98

256MB Palit 7600GT PCI-E (x16), Mem 1400 MHz, GPU 560 MHz, 12 Pipes, D-Sub Dual Link DVI HDTVSLiFan £59.91

Total: 454.15 from Scan

For the monitor I thought This

making the total 565.00(ish-whether you go google checkout or not on the monitor).

For fans, I'd bin the two you've selected and get a 120mm Zalman ZM-F3 for around a fiver and a sharkoon 'golfball' 80mm for around 3 quid. For air-volume versus noise you can't get better.

I completely agree on the AMD chip versus a core2 in this price range as the equivalent core2 price-wise is the E4400 at 2ghz and 800mhz fsb. The cpu I've quoted is the EE (energy efficient) version, built at 65nm so technically it should require less power and produce less heat. I'm not so sure myself but hey, thats just me.

You won't need a 580w psu for your build, that's just overkill so I've quoted a tremendous psu in the shape of the Enermax Liberty. You simply can't get better, and it's also very competitively priced.

You'll notice the card is now a 256mb version of your card. The 7600 can't hope to game above the resolution you've quoted with any degree of decent frame rates (1440x900 is basically just a widescreen ratio of the standard 1280x1024) so you won't need that extra ram, it'll also never see use at the ratio you've quoted as 256mb is easily enough at that resolution. It's also the GT version, and it's clocked a lot higher than the GS you quoted.

The hdd is now bigger, and you simply can't do better on a 'standard' hdd at the capacity than the Hitachi Deskstar's.

I haven't quoted an o.s disc because you didn't so I'm assuming you've already got one.

Hope this is helpful.
