Hi my 2nd comp in the house is for the misses and the kids, its a compaq presario 5000 with a athon 1Gig cpu and 512mb ram!
Yesterday it turned on fine workin till lunch when powered off, now last night it got turned on and the monitor light comes on green then goes orange and no pic on screen at all, the fan and hdd are all going and theres no bleeping going on.

I have changed the ram, cpu, graphincs card (both agp and pci), psu but still it refuses to turn the monitor on.

Any ideas what it is i dont really want to throw it out, ive had this from new back in 2000 when it came with ME!! and cost me a shade under £1000 and never been a prob till yesterday.

Any help apreaciated.

Could be PSU or mobo, sounds like you have tried everything else.

Could also try a BIOS reset by removing the watch battery from the mobo and unplugging it from the mains for 5-10 mins.

Have you tried starting it in safe mode? Or is there not even a BIOS screen at startup? A new 19" LCD monitor would cost about £130 these days.
