I was just wandering but is there a recommended distance that one should sit away from the computer screen?
I think I might be sitting far too close and that it may be effecting my eye sight. Does any one know the recommended distance? |

For CRT sit way back they emmit X-Ray radiation but at safe levels as the glass blocks most of this crazy stuff. The manufacturers are forced to provide thick enough glass to stop these X-Rays. The headaches come from the screen flickering.
TFT ,LCD screens don't refresh in the same way as a CRT they update pixels individually. A CRT monitor will refresh all the screen flickering your brain 60 times or more per second giving you a bad headache higher refresh rates lower this For TFT, LCD sit too close and the detail will look bad it all depends on what resolution your using. It's recomended that you have a light on in your room or your eyes will be adjusting to the dark and then baring the full force of the atomic bomb TFT brightness which mine has. |

Oh ok thanks for that, I am using a LCD but it is really bright!
I might try making it look a little duller so my eyes are not pinned wide open due to the brightness. I didnt realise some screens can give off radiation, surely thats really bad! I will stay clear of those! |

Well if you just have a lamp somewhere around your computer you won't have to worry about the glare that comes from your screen.
I recommend staying atleast 70cm away from your screen. If you're like me and you tend to lean in while playing games or typing, just make sure that your back is always against the back of the seat. |

Yea, I find that more and more people are starting to get back strains because of this. Now that I lean back when I type, I actually find that I can type a bit faster. This might not be the case for you, but it is always more relaxing to lean back rather than slouching over the keyboard.

it's best if you sit at a eye to screen level. That won't put a strain on your neck. Some people go to work and work on the computer all day , and get very bad neck/spine and back problems. It's best just to experiment and see.

I have tried sitting back in my seat now and find that I can actually type faster as my arms are not all bent and slumped over the keyboard! Thanks Reuben

I'm not really sure. I do not sit too close to the screen or it will hurt my eyes. Sitting too close can also be bad for your back, if you are hunched over. However, sitting too far back can make it hard for me to read what is on the screen.
I sit somewhere in the middle of the two. :) |

I have taken some of the advice from what you have posted and I have found that actually sitting back in my chair with a straight back has improved my typing also has improved my posture slightly!
