Default More Memory?

How do I know if I need more memory? I've had my computer for 2 years and it's getting a little slow. Is there somewhere I can go on my computer that will tell me this?

I think it's unlikely that a computer would show you text that said it needed more memory.

Although I do have a music program that warns if memory's low and asks if you want to keep going.

Well no there will not be any physical text saying that your computer needs more memory, but if you goto the task manager (on XP its ctrl-alt-del) and you mem usage is always high when using a program the you obviously need more memory.

Run this program and tell me what you have already, I can then advise you better.

I am a very cautious person. How do I know this program is safe? Also, what else is it going to tell you about my computer? Please don't take offense because I am this way with everything and everyone.

Ozzie, i run this forum and would never allow bad software to be advertised in the downloads section.

The software is free and does not contain any viruses, spy ware, toolbars or other crap.

Take it from me its 1000% safe, and is a very good tool for finding out what your PC is made of.

Dave.

Ozzie, its also possible your PC has slowed because it is getting full up with rubbish like spy ware.

Rather than buy more ram get Spy Bot from the downloads section also and clean your PC, you'll be surprised how even the most careful of people can pick this stuff up, causing pop-ups, slow browsing and slow PC in general.

Dave.

If you dont want to download that program up there that tells you the specs of your computer, you can always right click your my computer Icon and click on properties. Then make sure that the general tab is highlighted and at the very bottom of that screen it will tell you how much RAM you have.

Thank you for your assurance Dave. I will probably run the program later today.

I have Spysweeper on my compturer and it seems to be doing a great job for me. I also have three McAfee programs for protection. They really bog down the computer, in my opinion.

I wouldn't run Norton or McAfee if they paid me, they turn a perfectly fast PC into a slow machine.

Without sounding like a broken record I would advise Avast, its just as good as any other anti-virus, its free, and doesn't slow your machine down.

Change over, you'll see a highly noticeable difference in the speed of your computer.

That is true, I was just directly answering the question he asked about if he needed to get more. But yes if he does need to upgrade then that program would be a great one to use altho in my opinion it would be easier to just take the case off and look, but that only because I have quick release on my case.

Sure, but taking the side of the case off wont tell him the spec of the RAM, type, speed etc.

Hey guys, he is a she. I just use my cat's name online. :)

I know McAfee is slowing me down but.....I like Mcafee because it does a really good job for me and I've already paid for it.

I guess since I'm not willing to switch from McAfee, I need to tolerate a slow machine?
