Nothing for motherboards as such, yet as the PSU is the cause of this in most cases and they go when you get power spikes/power cuts etc. you can get a UPS and/or a surge protector for the mains input.

Yea, the only protection is before you get to the PSU, like Dave said a UPS and/or a surge protector (depending on your requirements) is what you should get. A surge protector, as the name suggests is to protect you and your equipment from power spikes, however a UPS has a battery so if the power fails altogether the computer doesn't loose power and risk damaging components, however most UPS devices have surge protectors in them now.

Most power supplies have built in circuitry to detect these things. However, cheaper PSUs (those $30 "1000W" ones you'll see thrown around on really shady looking websites) tend to be a lot worse about it.

A good power supply should never fail during usage (it'll either be DOA or should run fine for as long as you want it) and so what you need is not to be looking for a bandaid but a solution to the problem.
