I am going to buy a new mouse today since I still have an old roller ball mouse. I would like to get an optical one but some one told me i needed to get a different mouse pad and other tell me I dont need on at all. I was looking at prices thinking "How much can it be?" Well, is it a necessity to have a $20 Optical mouse pad, I mean to I really need to pay that much for one or can I just use my desk?

$20 for a mouse matt? Does have a built in clock and calculator?
The matt advice you got might of originated from an Apple Mac owner. I hear all sorts from those guys and all sorts of strange stories from the PC owners they have brainwashed. I use my optical mouse on the desk surface with out a problem I'm going to get a mouse matt soon as its wearing my desk down. |

My optical mouse has done the exact same thing, as I have been using it in the same spot for over a year I have a patch which is not the same color as the rest of my desk! It is rather annoying, also I didn't know you could buy mouse mats for optical, are they special ones?

Yes, the optical mouse pad is different, maybe its not necessary but it is different. Most of the optical pads I saw that day were hard pads. Something about the texture, but I guess if my desk will be fine for it then im not going to buy a new mouse pad.

WEll optical mice are always the best nowadays, and you might be tempted to get a wireless one as well. If you are planning to use the computer for many hours a week, i suggest going with a wired mouse seeing as you will be replacing the wireless mouse with batteries so often, that it'll cost you even more money.
