Default Mouse Problem

i am new to this forum and i must admit i am no genius in pcs, so i probably posted this thread in the wrong section.
anyway, my problem is that i use a mini optical mouse(not microsoft stuff) that i got from a farmaceutical company8dont ask), and its supposed to work without a cd to instal it(btw i use it on a pc with the touch pad mouse thingy), and i have been using it for several mouse without any problems when suddenlytoday the mouse suddenly blocked(bt the laser was still switched on) and i had to use the touchpad. anyways the following message comes up: usb device not recognized one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it for assistance in solving problem, click this message. also in the hardwre there is no sign of the mouse expect the touchpad.please help me:(.

Hi stankanovic Welcome to TCF "this may be moved so unsure of answering, but you have asked a question", as your Mouse not working you say (its supposed to work without a cd to install) do you have a CD to install ? as Windows is not recognising your Mouse shut down the PC remove the USB Mouse connection from the PC boot up then shut down reconnect the USB Mouse and boot up Windows XP "if your on XP, its always a good idea to inform people what OS you are using" will make new drivers for the Mouse and if you do have an installation CD load it.

When using a mouse with a laptop turn the Touchpad off.
What is the make of the Mouse as you may need to reinstall, if not already installed, the drivers?
Get the driver from the approriate site.
Install the drivers first then connect the mouse.

It's interesting that you said to turn the touchpad controls off. My husband's Acer can use either one, interchangably at the same time.

I agree, you should be able to use both.

If your running XP then try another USB mouse, I'm guessing the one you are using may be faulty, did you get it new?

If you are running 98 or 2000 you will need drivers, without a driver disc you are stuffed.

Yes; I have a Dell laptop and use a USB Optical mouse. Both the touchpad and mouse can work at the same time. I've had USB errors like that on other devices, but it cleared up when I rebooted my computer.

soory i didnt menton i use windows xp. i was able to use both touchpad and mouse with my pc. also i tried rebooting and removing mouse and then rebooting with mouse plugged in and stilldidnt recongize. anywyas mouse was new and working perfectly for several months when i was using it yesterday and suddenly stopped working. its a mini optical mouse, but since it has the farmaceutical logo on it i dont know which compnay created it(made in china). i does not have any cd with it. any more suggestions? anyways it might be that the mouse is broken, but it seems strange to me that it wuld stop working so suddenly

If possible I would find out the make of the mouse and check the companies website to see if they do have up-to-date drivers avaiable for download, since I had a similar fault with my Acer model, downloaded some drivers....rebooted and worked fine since, and that problem occured over 6 months ago for me.

If thats not possible then I agree with dave, time to try or invest in a new mouse my friend.
