Hi all,

Once again sorry if this thread in the wrong area.

Whenever I attach my Ipod, Sony Walkman, camera or pen drive via the USB they seem to get recognised then the connection is lost before being found again and this can go on for a while.

With my Ipod it never stops so is impossible to transfer music but with the Walkman and camera it's not as much of a problem. On attaching an empty SD Card via the USB port nothing was recognised at all in My Computer.

Is this a common problem that I should just accept or can I do something about it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Stuart

Do you get any yellow question marks In Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager (especially related to the USB hub/ports)?

e: this can also be caused by USB sleep issues, try the following and see if it still happens:
  • Right-click My Computer and select Properties (or open control panel System).
  • Click tab Hardware, click button Device Manager.
    • Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    • Double-click USB Root Hub (or right-click it and select Properties).
      • Click tab Power Management.
      • Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
      • Click OK to exit USB Root Hub Properties.
    • Click the red cross to close Device Manager.
  • Click OK to close System Properties.

If Carbon's suggestion doesn't work, go back to Device Manager and uninstall all the USB Controllers, reboot and Windows will automatically re-install them ..... if there's a Windows glitch, this will often flush it out.

I do have Windows XP.

I did what Carbon suggested (thanks for that Carbon!!!) and everything now works on one of my two front USB ports.

However, the other doesn't appear to be a USB 2 port. I was almost certain that all the ports were USB 2. Does anyone know why this might not be the case with that one?

You might want to go to the PC manufacturers web site any look for any firmware updates.
