Default My built comp has mind of its own, need some help to fix please.

i built a Pc, because it was cheaper than buying one and to be fair my current (family) one sucks.

the problem seems to change although i beleieve it the same problem, but that it just 'shows' itself in different ways.

made computer with friend who had already made one of his own which has worked fine for ages now. so i'm pretty sure its all put together correctly inside..BUT..

when i started to install Xp for the first time after the formating, i started to get the blue screen of death! duh duh duuuurh! (when its trying to install the os), wierd thing is tryed it again and it did the same thing but at a different time untill instalation completion. hmm. this happened a couple of time, but finally i got xp loaded on yey, BUT (yet again ).. once it had rebooted etc a MAJOR error message appeared saying something big had happened (have got the print screens of the details of this as a jpeg on memory stick somewhere). o well i thought i can prob sort that out later (btw this comp isn't yet hooked up to the net) so i start installing drivers, 1st one is ok, second one gets about half way through when screen goes blank and the Pc restarts! ok so it starts back up again then i think maybe its that particular driver or something, so try and install different one, this time HD audo something or other came on a disk, worked fine, no sudden restart. yey, next one i do is graphics card, but yet again that restarts the computer.
u can the pattern emerging, this is what happens for all the driver and everthing i try to install (tryed a game just to see if it worked on that...nope )
But now the big downer is that i turned it on, on wednesday and 2day and it just restarts over and over and over.....i get bored and turn it off after about 2 or 3 reboots.

i'm conpletely puzzled as i know a little about comps but this has me, so asking anyone else out ther HELP please !

any help appreciated :) rob

ooh my specs for this comp:
motherboard: Asrock 4CoreDual-Sata
Ram: 2gb (2 x 1gb sticks)
Intel core 2 duo (2ghz x 2 from the core 2 duo)
Harddrive: 500gb SataII
optical drives: Dual-layer dvd writer
graphics card: ATI radeon 256mb ddr2 pci-e

OK, i went to reinstall XP, it finished formatting, then blue screen of death came up with initial installation of XP.
Showed as follows:

error info...blah blah blah...
PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
blah blah blah blah
tech info: ***STOP: 0x0000004E
(0x00000099, 0x000143E7, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

beginning dump of physical memory
physical memory dump complete
contact system administrator ...etc..

when widows has an error message come up, i have had one of those when i did manage to install XP originally. would the 'Error Signature' or 'Error Report Content' be of any use? as i could attach as pics (print-screens).

is that ok, if you can help, it'd be great thanks

rob

I think it is RAM related, if your friend has DDR2 memory aswell, I suggest that you try your RAM in his or his RAM in yours

ok thanks sorry for late reply things came up them forum down for a night ..

anyway, took second ram stick out, worked fine installed everything blah blah
wanted to check the second ram stick out so i took the first on out and put the second one in the first slot, worked alright until i played a dvd (nearest one was lord of the rings 2), had another program playing a song, with it going through some HD audio thing. then it bummed up a little, screen flicked off and on once, when it came back on i had a message from the (i think it's Realtek) HD audio program thing.

So i put the other one back in, see if it did anything different, but basically restarts every 3 min roughly.

so i know i stick of ram is ok and the other is not, damn :(

i'll see if i can send it back and get one that is working.

thanks rob
