Hi im sure this question has been asked before but i can`t see it in Q A, does anyone know how to determine whether a computer is running slowly due to software or hardware, i am running xp amd 2500 ati 9700 750mb ram, also use avg, zone alarm,ad-ware and malware software along with advanced system care, any help would be greatly appriciated. The system reboots especially when using wow. Thanks beerboy

If it's rebooting, it sounds like an overheating issue.
Get the case open and give it a clean, and then if it's still bad we can look at sorting the software side of things/suggesting upgrades.

Speed wise, if the machine used to be fast, it's probably software.

However as mbon said rebooting/freezing is almost always overheating. Clean you fans.

If it is simply shutting off and restarting with no notice or anything then it's likely the PSU is defective.

What OS are you running? How many processes are running in Task Manager? Its often more likely to be software causing it to run slowly. Try running ccleaner.

I run cc cleaner every few days and task manager only shows msn and wow when the computer crashes, last time this happened i reinstalled windows but this caused me a big head ache, i run malware, spyware adawre and virus scanners once a week and regularly defrag the drive, do you think it could be the graphic card as i know wow is quite demanding, thanks for your help so far.
