Default My computer will not boot at all

Hi
Just did a factory restore of my computer everything was running ok i was installing all my drivers over again, restarted it twice. Then it would not let me get past activate windows stage which i was trying to avoid until everytinhg was setup. So i tried a few times but the line was not connecting, so i was forced into the log off screen and i reset the computer cause the power off button was not showing. Now i get nothing when i power on the computer no post no bios nothing but the fan and the power lights.
I think i am completly screwed unless someone knows a way out.
Any suggestions???????????????????????

Remove the power cord for a few mins to drain all the power out of the machine so it can reset.

If that does n't work you'll need a new PSU to try that first.

No that didn't work.
I have seen another forum with a similar problem and like you said the power supply was changed and that solved the problem. I find that surprising as all the lights are on and the fan is running, and how the PSU can screw up from me pressing the REST button is astonishing.

A faulty PSU will happily spin fans and power lights.

They are also very unreliable so can break very easily.

If a PC doesn't power on properly it is always hardware, and a PSU is the cheapest thing to try.

Default My computer will not boot at all

Well bought a new psu booted up at the ram testing screen, a warning came up saying "warning new cpu"( strange because i did nothing to the cpu), went into bios when i came out the warning had gone.
So went onto the welcome screen and it stayed there forever so i had to reset and guess what another no boot. But after a few mins i tried again it booted but i got into bios instead to see if there is any setting that can stop this. Well while browsing in bios the screen froze and the keyboard lights were not on either so i had to reset i hope i can get it booted again i'm going for another factory restore.
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

It could be bad ram. If you have more than 1 stick, try removing one and if no better, swap them (keeping to 1).

Well i am still getting these boot freezes but now it can happen at any stage after POST and during win logo screen and worse when XP is actually up. When the desktop and all the icons come up you think your in the clear but then it will freeze no hard disk activity no mouse movement.
Just can not make sense of how this occured it all started from an innocent Reset which i have done a millions of times now the thing has gone bloody mad.

_possible_ overheat too, though unlikely. more likely to be RAM, imo.

No i haven't tried the ram, its not the orignal ram that came with computer way back in 2002, i have installed two new modules a couple of years back. But i suppose it could still be the RAM. The overheating issues seems quite valid as usually when i leave the computer off the plug for a night i can boot backup with functionality. But then i have just bought a new PSU and before that a new fan early in the year so that would still be puzzling.
Also i have noticed in the BIOS when i disable the POST speech notification the POST Complete Test automatically disables as well i was not aware of this before and have rectified it now.
