Ok so over the summer my screen broke (dont ask) on my Compaq Presario 2100. I got the money to buy a new screen, but my dad just wants to find a new computer all together.

Thats fine with me, BUT he wants to buy a desk top, and i want to buy a laptop! He says you can get 2x the bang for 1/2x the buck, which i have found to be true.

Can some one help me find a laptop that would be suitable for my needs? Or help me find a KICKIN Desk top?

I would like it to be less or equal to $800 (for math geeks: Cost =< 800)

have more than 3 Gb of Ram (ram => 3)

a hard dive of between 120 Gb and 250Gb ( 120 =< Hard Drive =< 250)

I also need help on the processer and Video card choices.

I do lots of gaming, TONS to be exact (hours of gaming > Universe) and lots of 3d stuff. I also have a nack for running about 5 windowed programs at the same time.

If you have any suggestions on any of the asked, PLEASE post.

Thanks!!!

Well for alot of gaming, I should strongly recommend a desktop, as a Laptop for gaming you will have to have it plugged in anyway, there isn't any point spending the extra. As for what to recommend, try taking a look at this topic.

well heres the thing, i dont need a perfect gaming computer. Just something that is good.
I really want a laptop cuz I use to take my broken one every where and allows for greater comfort.

im really worried about speed, ram and core wise.

For that much you could get a decent gaming computer and then be halfway toward buying a decent netbook.

Well you have to decide which is more important to you then, would you rather worse performance for greater cost and be able to take it anywhere with you, or would you rather save some cash, get better performace but not be able to take it anywhere?

what kind of games and programs do you use? Laptops have gone far with technology, but you might have trouble finding a laptop that suits your gaming needs for $800 or less.

FSX is very demanding. Especially on CPUs. You're looking at absolutely destroying your battery life even more than on most games. You'd also have to pay out the nose - I don't think a 8600M GT would handle it. I would just stick to a desktop if you want to play those sort of games and grab a netbook to be on the move.

well its entirely up to you, yes desktop does play game better but you can play game on a laptop - if you have a good one. yes you do still have to plug it in when you play games but when your not playing games you can take it around. I got a laptop just recently after changing from a Desktop and i think it was the best decision. Less power, less dust in the room, does the same job plays my games. I mean im playing Crysis at low and still look great with no lag.
