besides there being no operating system, they use misleading advertising and no-name brands. you can spend a bit more and get better computers with real parts. there is no such thing as a phenom 8.8ghz they just do 2.2 ghz times 4 which is wrong. all the cores wont be used at the same time nor will they be used for the same thread. i really would not trust this auction. are there any websites that build computers for you in the UK? there is one called cyberpowerpc.com but im pretty sure its american.

Why dont you build your own m8y .... you can get to choose exactly what goes in the box then

Have a look here if you want a ready built one .... I have used them several times, to source a few boxes and you can customise them too. They use decent components also,

thanks again for the link phil

just thought id check with you guys
  • Intel Pentium Dual Core E2140 CPU Overclocked To 2.67 Ghz Per Core
  • Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Heatsink & Fan
  • Asrock Conroe 1333-D667 Motherboard
  • 256MB nVidia 8800GT PCI Express Graphics Card
  • 2GB (2 x 1GB) Kingston PC5300 667Mhz DDR2 Ram
  • 160GB 7200rpm SATA II Hard Drive
  • 22x Dual Layer DVD Rewriter
  • Integrated 5.1 Channel Audio
  • Choice of Windows XP Home OR Windows Vista Home Basic
  • Coolermaster 460W Dual 12V Rail PSU
good for £380?

i know its much better than my current PC which is starting to fail to boot, and i cant be bothered to replace the PSU or harddrive to find out the problem is actually the motherboard which has played up since day of purchase lol

i got the cash ready so last minute opinions or even available links to other setups for same price or cheaper would be great

cheers all!

It's not a very good spec. E2180 was replaced by the E5200, and the 256MB 8800GT is pretty horrid. Cooler is almost worthless, and the PSU is worrisome. It's better than nothing, but it's still not that great.

If you're looking for something on a budget of ~£400 then look pre-built.. Its generally more expensive systems that are better to build. Don't be fooled by overclocked cores too much.. Architecture is important too! That's the reason Pentium 4 and netburst was a disaster..

Are you using it for gaming and such or general work? There's little point having a great set-up that can process the world backwards if all you're looking for its pure performance in notepad..

What are you wanting to use the computer for? An 8800GT is pretty worthless to have unless you are going to game on it.

Also you mentioned in the specs about getting vista basic. I personally would leave vista out of your computer for now. Windows 7 is expected later this year. Just go with XP home/Pro for now.
