| I'm planning on building a new PC, and would like some advice about components. I'm trying to keep the price as low as I can, (About £450-500) but I want to make sure it'll work. It will be used for general purpose stuff, and some light graphics work. Here is what I've found so far: C2D E6750 Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 REV1 OCZ PC2-6400 Gold Gigabyte GeForce 8600GT 512MB DDR2 Hitachi deskstar 160GB SATAII Windows XP home Any advice is welcome! Thanks in advance |

| Hi. Firstly; very well spec'd. I would only change one thing to be frank. The gigabyte is a cost-effective board, the C2D quoted is an awesome chip on a bang-for-buck basis. Not enough people quote Hitachi Deskstars in the their builds-generally awesome drives. Do away with the card though. As you're not gaming the 512mb on that card is a waste. Infact, even if you were gaming its a waste anyway. That card, for it's performance, can only make use of 256mb ram. You're paying for the extra 256mb so find a version that doesn't have 512mb. But as you're going XP and not gaming, you could probably get a DX9 card with better performance for the same money. How much is the card quoted?

| I've found it for about £70. The main reason I chose it was that that particular version is fanless... Would a Radeon X1650Pro 256MB be a better bet? |

| I might just stick with the 8600, doesn't cost too much and gives me a Vista/gaming option should I wish to go that way... Thanks for the advice though. |

| I'd prefer the 8600 over the X1650......I'd prefer a punch in the face over the X1650. Your choice.

| You are being very helpful... That's why I would have given you a graphics card... I really should think about things before I say them! Anyway... Thanks for your help! |

| I've just found one thing that I would like confirmed. The MoBo spec says it can supply 1.8V to the RAM. The RAM says somewhere 2.1V. Is this it's maximum or is it the required voltage? |
