Regarding the wireless card. Try this:

Linksys Wmp55ag. www.aria.co.uk £23.

Checked with Linksys re Vista compatability and they say it is.

Also checked with Aria, and they confirm this also.

Alex

Your a superstar mate, I don't think I have come across anyone as helpful as you on a forum before!

Can I ask you advice on a TV card. With having the 22" monitor, will we need a specific type/spec of card or will any old card do?

All I want to be able to do is run a signal from my sky + box to the computer screen using one of those video senders...

Firstly, regarding your earlier post. Having a 22" tft is not a pre-requisite for a particular type of card. Except, as the screen is a widescreen ratio, make sure the card can support it.

Regarding the TV card, there (currently) is no driver support for Vista, speaking to Hauppauge though a driver is in the works. Choice is yours fella.

As you're purchasing from Dell, why not go for their HVR-1600? Definate Vista support, and they'll fit it for you. If you're going the credit route as well it should only up the payments by a tad. I've checked the pricing and its competitive. Best bet, give 'em a ring.

I couldn't get the link for the wireless card to work, can you just post ebuyer's product codes?

Cheers.

Having been on both the Linksys website and a forum with a list of Vista compatible hardware, I think the wireless card you recommended (WPM 54G) will work.

Linksys has a driver download. Should I just go ahead and get one?

Also will my broadband work with Vista, I have a netgear wireless router through AOL.

As I am currently running wireless with my laptop will I be able to add my new desktop to the network easily? What will I need to do?

Firstly, apologies for the time taken to reply, work committments have kept me off the site.

If the wireless card fits your requirements and there's a driver download, and if you like the price, why not?

Regarding the Netgear, best response I can give would be to speak to AOL. They may have some proprietry software on there that isn't compatible. Or, indeed, they may not. Safer to check though.

Are you running XP on your lappy? or Vista?

Hey don't worry about it, I'm not in a rush!

I'll give AOL a bell regarding any issues.

I'm running XP on my lappy....

Still reading horror stories about VISTA, are you running it? I am going to regret not going for XP again.....

???

I've been (attempting) to run vista premium on my lappy for about 3 months. It's useless. My bluetooth stopped working, got that sorted. Then the finger-print scanner stopped. Got that sorted. Then it wouldn't register my cpu at the correct speed, got that sorted and lastly, my dvd drive stopped recognising any media, thats taken weeks to work out.

Regarding running a network with both XP and Vista o.s's. I know there's issue's. It's all over the web. I'd try it and see fella, and just post if (when?) you have any issues. Still, by all accounts Dell's customer service dept is rather good (no personal experience regarding problems myself) so you could also give them a call should you have any problems.

Apologies for not giving a more detailed response there, but as you havn't tried it yet i'd be getting ahead of myself giving any advice.

Back to the TV Card question....

Is there a system out there that will allow me to watch tv without having to have the computer on?

Either way which is the best budget card with a remote included, anyone seen any good prices out there. I know ebuyer are fairly competitive and you get a tenner off with google checkout at the mo...

I don't personally know (anyone:shout up) of a card that will allow you to watch tv with the pc off. If it's an internal card it'll be drawing power from the pc, graphics card for displaying etc. If its an external card it's still going to need to go through the gpu. Also any software is going to be resident on the hdd.

Regarding which one, same advice again: Decide your requirements, choose a card, then shop around for the best price. Obviously checking compatibility with Vista.
