| So, from what I can tell this is going to work but I don't want to buy the parts and then find out I overlooked something. This is why I am going to post the parts I am looking to purchase here and ask for some input on whether they are all compatible and what you think of the system itself. I know that Intel are getting faster and faster, but I'm an AMD man which is why I went that route on the chip. Currently I am running: AMD Sempron 3000+ ATi Sapphire Radeon 9600 256MB DDR Video 1GB Kingston Ram (Not sure the other specs on it) DFI Mainboard Motherboard (Again, not sure about additional information on this) I am looking at purchasing... AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ (65W) Dual-Core Socket AM2, 2.6GHz, 1MB x2 L2 Cache, 2000MHz HT, 65nm (ADO5200CZBOX) Seagate Barracuda (ST3250620A) 7200.10 250GB Ultra ATA/100 7200RPM 16MB Cache (OEM) Asus M2N-E Socket AM2 nForce 570 Ultra MCP Chipset DDR2 533/667/800 6xSATA PCI-Express x16 Slot 7.1 Channel Audio Gigabit Lan AMD Live! Ready OCZ (OCZ2G8002GK) DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHz Gold XTC 2GB (2x1024MB) Dual Channel Kit I would like to know if these parts are compatible with eachother and I have an additional question. When purchasing a hard drive, does it matter if it is SATA or IDE? Just curious. Thanks! |

| Depends on the motherboard.. Would need the exact model. |

| The hard drive you have listed is an IDE drive change that to a SATA drive. You will also need a PCIe graphics card.

| Just something to be aware of in terms of SATA. If you are running windows xp with a sata hard drive you may need a floppy to drive to install the driver to run it as sata. On my set up I found out that it was running as IDE in the bios, so it worked fine, but when I changed it to AHCI (sata) it crashed. Its Ok to run as IDE, and I say it works fine but sata is faster. I bit the bullet in the end and bought a floppy drive (I got one with card readers included so felt felt like a more worthwhile buy!) so was able to run it as sata after that.

As far as I know its not an issue with Vista as it should have the sata drivers build in. I heard this was the case with XP SP2 (service pack 2) but it didnt work like that for me. My System: The Elephant
