Hello - I'm in the process of building a gaming comp. I've purchased 4/8 components, and if you could review the other 4/8 parts, that'd be kickass!

Here are the ones I've already purchased:
CD/DVD Hard Drive PSU Case

Here are the ones I've yet to purchase:
Memory CPU GPU Motherboard

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.

BTW, will this build be sufficient to play games like Far Cry 2 or Fallout 3 with highest settings on 1680x1050?

My suggestion is to dump the utterly useless CPU/X58 and get a P45 with 4GB of RAM and a E8500, or wait for Deneb/Phenom II which should launch by the end of the year and possibly have Wolfdale performance.

What do you know about the i7 series that I don't? LOL Let me rephrase that, as you have probably forgotten more about computers than I will ever know: What is wrong with the i7 series of chips? I have yet to do any research on them yet but thought thta they were supposed to be pretty good as well as the Tri-Phase RAM.

EDIT: I agree with YRTNEG about the noise factor of the 900. I have one and it is a bit noisy. I'm old and partially deaf though so i9t doesn't bother me much lol. On drawback in it though is space. With everything in it, it has been difficult to do a good job of cord management. Also with my motherboard (790i) the placement of the power/reset/audio pins just about maxed out the limit of the length of the wires in the case. I had a bugger of a time getting them in without running them directly across the MoBo. Other than that though I l;ove my 900.

The benchmarks I have seen show worse performance compared to core 2 quads, with the i7 also being pricey as are their motherboards and RAM it didn't seem to add up for me.

Rapolyn, What is your budget???

Also Carbon, what would be more effective, a E8500 or a Q9550

Rapolyne, Hey make sure it is what you want man. If thats the Mobo you want, then get it. Dont let any of us in here talk you out of it, but do however use the advise to compare your system with others that are mentioned. I myself just went to tigerdirect and picked up a system myself. Some may like it, some might not. You might want to go check them out and see if they have anything there, if nothing else do a price check and make sure you get it as cheap as possible. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...031&CatId=2405

The problem with both Phenom II and i7 for gamers is that they're overkill. Both of us already know the GPU is the main factor for games, and that CPU is utterly secondary. But the i7 etc are a forced push of quad-core onto the entire desktop market when it's utterly useless.

The only people that benefit from i7 are people that work in CAD, rendering, stuff that required quads in the first place. Until there is a shrink in 2010, I highly doubt it's going to be a recommendation over the Wolfdales.

If Intel was smart they would have made some LGA775 dual cores or at least continued the Wolfdales for a while. AMD was *going* to destroy them in the gaming/enthusiast market by reportedly having what amounted to a Wolfdale + 2 cores (same overclocking, etc), but while it clocks well it's still about the same as the Core 2 Quad and the AMD design does less work per clock.
