Hi guys

I have been upgrading like crazy this last while ,getting stuff then thinking its no good and i dont know what to settle on to be honest. I havnt got a clue, because there is always something that bothers me after i get the item, am always bitching about something

My current cpu/gpu is Q6600 & HD4850

I have all my overtime pennies saved up and i am now thinking of going with another combo.

This is what am thinking of getting

Gainward GTX260
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?GW-265

& for the cpu , am stuck in between a E8500, Q8200/3/4 & Q9300/4

Do yous think it would be worth while moving from my current combo to this card and one of these processors?

Am mainly looking to upgrade so that i can play Arma II on max settings

I could end all this upgrading and go all out on an I7 and maybe GTX295, But that is way over my budget

The HD4850 i have only had a few months and i didnt really see much difference between the 9600GT i had and this HD4850 i have now, yet its well knowing that its meant to be faster than a 9800GTX leaving all the benchmarks out of this, game wise i seen no difference from them, but in bench tests you can see a huge so called advantage.

Am worried incase i get 260GTX then find that it isnt any better than a HD4850

The cpu i have the Q6600 even though it can O.C better than the Q8200, the Q8200 is much newer tech with processing down to 45nm which would kinda put me off that one, maybe the Q8400 would better. Then maybe the Q9300/4 Quad, could be a good choice?

The only duel core i would think about getting is the E8500, but would that be taking a step back from my Q6600?

Sorry for long post ,hope someone can make my mind up cos i cant i give on that

Regards

Hi Berty , thanks for reply

Am looking to run Arma II on max settings or very close to it. Do you think the Q6600 is ok I may try it out first and if it handles well i might not even need this upgrade .

Very tempting to go for the newer Quad ,the 9300 anyways

Intel do know how to confuse people

cheers

Hey ozzie mate, and no problem about the reply bud well with what I can see your CPU and the rest of your system is absolutely fine to run ArmaII ON max settings but I would reccommened that you purchase this following graphics card, with my experience the following card x 2 in Bridge PCI-E is all you need to run HD gaming > www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-168-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat= I have the following card (single) in my pc and running cod4 all on max with no slow down or loss of FPS.

Hehe

The card i have atm is the HD4850 and was thinking of changing that to the GTX260, ya think i should or just keep HD4850

COD4 no problem with fps, but Arma II is mighty heavy on cpu/gpu

I do like the HD4850 , But am not going wow! if ya know what i mean. Its struggling in FSX too

Hmm If it is stuggling atm you could try 2 of them on bridge twice the pair, These are quite good cards my friend for the price but I dont HD game so if you really want to get the Max graphics out of your machine you would need more expensive cards bridged. I hope I have been some sort of help Ozzie good luck!

Yeah ,HD4850s together would do the trick too That would be even cheaper way to get to the same point

However, my other PCI-E slot is only 4x or 8x , Think that would mean only one HD4850 would be running on 4 or 8 and the other on 16x. I think i seen in manual ,if i make use of the 2nd PCI-E slot then the 16x slot will then become 4 or 8 aswell ,so double blow lol.

Much appreciate your view Berty & welcome to Computer Juice !

Many thanks

Yeah I can see your problem now ozzie, well then if you have only 1x16 slot then I would go with selling current card or keeping it for spare, and then buy a better more Top end graphics card.
