Default New rig not working

Hi, I have built a new computer but it does not work. I don't know what the cause of the problem is. It is my first build so there is a slight chance that something was done incorrectly, although I believe I did everything right. My parts(just to clarify; all the parts are new- from newegg):

core 2 duo e8400
dfi bloodiron
xfx 8800gts
seagate 320gb hd
4x1gb 677 crucial ballistix ram
tuniq tower
700w thermaltake psu

Everything powers on for a very short time, then it turns off, and the cycle repeats. I hear no beeps.
I am suspecting something to be doa, but cannot even figure out what it is.

Stats:
-All case fans work.
-All LED lights work.
-GPU fan works.
-Motherboard light is on.
-DVD drive works (opens)
-CPU fan works.

***
I have tried:
-Resetting the motherboard
-Realigning the CPU and the hsf
-Tightening all the cables, making sure everything is plugged in properly
-Reseating the CPU
-Removing hdd,dvd drive, all but 1 ram stick
-Manually turning on computer with a screwdriver to avoid a power button short

Please help me with any possible solutions. I believe that I have narrowed it down to either the psu, gpu,or cpu. Please advise me on which part it is so I can get a replacement within the allowed time. Thank you in advance.

Can you get it as far as the BIOS screen to see what it has detected?

Do you have access to another graphics card then to try?

I see you are in the US and it is late. Try sleeping on it and have another go in the morning. These problems are usually something trivial but if you are tired you won't see it!

Well, not at the moment. Do you believe the gpu is the problem? The fan on it spins and there is no constant beep that does come on when I unplug it. The reason why the monitor does not get to display bios is because (maybe I didn't make this part clear)- the computer shuts off after about 3 seconds and then reboots itself. It keeps "attempting to turn on" until I turn it off.

I guess I should get sleep but I have been troubleshooting for a while so I don't think sleeping on it will help me... :) However, I'll take your advice. Hopefully when I wake up I will receive responses with some ideas that will work. Also, tomorrow my vista is coming so I wanted to have it ready :/

So it is failing at the POST stage possibly. That is why I thought you should press the key that would normally get it to go to the setup screen and see if it made it. Is it Esc or a function key with your m/b?

Yes, the lack of any warning when you unplug the fan is worrying. What does it do when you remove the graphics card and start up?

Silly questions maybe, but as Mike said often it's a simple thing :
Did you use the stand-offs, when fitting the mobo
Did you apply the thermal paste on the CPU correctly

It's not the GPU. It's most likely the PSU, possibly the motherboard, unlikely to be the CPU.

I would try a different PSU, one of the rails may not be giving the components enough power.

Would that mean that the psu is defective. I mean it is 700w...
