For someone stating you're new to upgrading that is an exceedingly well spec'd system Ferret.

If oc'ing though i'd be going for an E6600 and a P5B-Deluxe (non-wifi) mobo, better voltages for overclocking. Better bang for buck with the E6600 combined with the Asus. The P5B has also shot down in price since the release of Asus' new revisions in the P5K series with Intel's new P35 chipset.

You'll also see a higher oc combined with lower temps with the Asus board more than likely. Especially if you combine these two with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro for the cpu hsf.

Very good choices on the cards. Personally I'd be going for the 8800GTS. If you're gaming above 1280x1024 though you might want to look at the 640mb version. If your friend is going to oc the card as well you may as well save some more money and go for a vanilla version rather than a factory oc'd version as you'll save some money on the purchase price. You can't overclock the stream processors yet, but even just oc'ing the gpu and ram should see a few percent improvement in games.

The X1950 is in no way a bad card but if you're oc'ing you don't want any bottlenecks. Plus they can tend to run loud and hot, hsf dependent.

You also might want to get some Arctic Silver 5 T.I.M for heat movement between the cpu and hsf. Cost's about a fiver.

For a case, and a rather cheap one at that I'd be going for the Antec 900. Very good case for the money and the case fans do run quiet. Mind you, any case you get you could just swap out the case fans, or mount them with the rubber screws you can buy separately. Could even Get a Cubed Big NG fan controller, awesome piece of kit. But a tad expensive for what it is.

Motherboard Here

By 'vanilla' when referring to the card I mean that the gpu, ram and stream shaders are set at the default reference speeds and not overclocked. Asus, XFX etc charge a premium for card's that have been pre-overclocked.

What psu?
